Since launching her signature “Morning After Bag” in 2005, REBECCA MINKOFF has quietly become one of the most successful young accessory designers in the US. By the time she debuted ready-to-wear in 2009 it girls and industry insiders were fighting to be seen in her downtown cool duds.
If REBECCA MINKOFF speaks to her obsessive fan base (known as “Minkettes”) it’s because she, with her own relaxed brand of chic, is the target audience. The line is accessible with a contemporary price point and Rebecca’s dedication to social media. From Tumblr to Twitter and Pinterest to Facebook there isn’t a corner of the internet that she hasn’t covered giving her fans peaks into collections, her own life, and celebrity encounters.
All of this has led to REBECCA MINKOFF being one of the hottest tickets during New York Fashion Week and the cause of many a blogger stampede!
For Spring 2013, Rebecca was right on trend with vintage jetsetter inspired looks. The collection, inspired by photographer Slim Aarons, tapped into the glamour of Palm Spring’s heyday. Prints will be huge for spring and Rebecca used them liberally splashing florals on jeans and across tops while mixed shapes were on nearly everything else.
While many of the prints were set against mostly white pieces color also played an important role in the collection. Reds, Kelly greens and indigos all made appearances on the sporty shorts, vests and jackets.
A plaid shrunken blazer may remind you of a seventies men’s club but it looked fresh thanks to a thick band of piping. A much tweeted sheer, white top with a high-low hemline (yes, they are here to stay!) and floral collar is flattering for every shape and will probably sell out as soon as it hits stores! White was a constant theme throughout the show but it worked best as a dreamy shirtdress lightly printed with pink flowers so pale you can barely see them.
Of course the clothes were the focus but Minkoff stayed true to her roots with multitudes of bags and shoes to be lusted over. If the bags were anything to go by then Spring 2013 is a free-for-all. Rounded satchels, oversized envelope clutches, classic saddles and new incarnations of her own “MAB” were all here in every color for the modern girl. Look out for the small color blocked handbags as they are headed for “It Bag” status.
As at many of the other shows, models had mostly bare skin. Stila makeup artists created a sun kissed glow with caramel blush and lips while eyes had just a dash of color courtesy of a pastel green liner.
