This season Bevza will be presenting an art movie based on the research of the most significant Ukrainian cultural roots. The film named ‘TRYP’ (the word comes from Trypillia) — an ancient Ukrainian culture famous for its pottery which takes place on the territory of Ukraine from 5400 BC. The ten-minute art movie ‘TRYP’ directed by Svitlana Bevza and her friend ceramist Nadiia Shapoval is based on the investigation of symbols of Trypillian culture which takes a central place in the new Spring – Summer 21 Collection.
The general theme of the collection encompasses some of the most ancient and fascinating aspects of Ukrainian history while exploring the powerful sanctity of women. Designer Svitlana Bevza’s deeply personal research includes the study of Trypillia, an ancient culture that spanned across Ukraine. The pagan civilization cherished women, a central figure to their livelihood, and worshipped women’s energy and mothering instincts, even praying to statues in the female form.
Bevza notes that this collection was developed while under lockdown during COVID-19 and remains one of her most close-to-heart collections. “I wanted to show how important it is to find our roots and make it interesting. This pandemic separated us from other nations and cultures,” she says. “We can communicate our customs to each other by telling a story of our own land”. Our aim in terms of this pandemic separation is to share the cultural roots of our land to other nations and to raise interest among the young generation.
The film was directed by Svetlana Bevza and Nadia Shapoval and will debut on the Bevza site, IG Live, CFDA Runway360 and on the NYFW site. The movie was shot with the support of the Ukrainian Museum of Trypillia. The film uses footage of excavations of an ancient civilization Trypillia.
