Luxury Fashion Brand Gaucho – Buenos Aires Continues Growth with US Debut

Luxury fashion and leather accessories brand from Argentina, Gaucho – Buenos Aires – celebrated its U.S. debut yesterday at New York Fashion Week. Founded by entrepreneur Scott Mathis and headed by Argentine designers Carmen Vils and Guido Spangenberg, Gaucho – Buenos Aires blends the quality of a bygone era with a sophisticated, modern, global outlook. The brand’s beautifully handcrafted clothing and accessories herald the birth of Argentina’s finest designer label.
Gaucho – Buenos Aires’ Spring/Summer 2020 Collection, DÉJÀ-VU N ° 3, was inspired by the late 60’s and early 70’s silhouettes and looks, including iconic figures such as Yves Saint Laurent and Mick Jagger. Wide rounded necklines and geometric shapes that are reminiscent of astronaut suits, and colors such as light blue remind the viewer of the planet Earth seen from space.
The collection includes quality artisanal techniques such as manual braiding, as well as the use of raw materials of natural origin such as cotton and wood, which leaves a distinct imprint of Argentina’s environment. Leather accessories, such as the iconic Bolson Bag, are crafted from pure Argentine leather. The ultra-tactile feel comes courtesy of a centuries-old vegetable tanning technique, using only natural, sustainable tannins. The fabrics of this season include satin, linen, tweed, leather, silk chiffon, organza, cotton, and paillettes which shape the basis of these stunning pieces of design and avant-garde fashion.
The work of Argentine plastic designer and artist, Tomás Maldonado, is also included in this collection, and can be seen in a system of shapes and color combinations applied to prints, geometric design elements, and accessories.
New York-based shoe designer Ruthie Davis collaborated with the brand, showcasing her Fall/Winter 19′ style, the Meghan. Now available online for pre-sale, the style will drop in October and will be available in black and a plum. The moonlight colorway was created exclusively for the show and is part of Spring/Summer ’20 collection.
