Overcoat X Rirkrit Tiravanija NYFW SS2023 photos by Cheryl Gorski

NY fashion brand OVERCOAT has created a work “COME TOGETHER” in collaboration with contemporary artist Rirkrit Tiravanija . The  collection was presented on the streets of Chinatown in Manhattan during New York Fashion Week. In Japan, it was exhibited for two months at the international contemporary art exhibition “Okayama Art Exchange 2022″, where Tiravanija serves as artistic director.

” COME TOGETHER ” is a work consisting of 12 looks, consisting of a coat of clothing waste arranged in the United States by the non-profit organization “The OR Foundation” and an awning material (commercial architecture) that is the roots of OVERCOAT. I use a coat made with the fabric used for eaves etc.). Each of the 12 coats, one old and new, is layered with a unique pattern work by designer Ryuhei Omaru, and all of them are unique pieces with slogan-like words in Tiravani’s unique font expressed by silkscreen printing.
In recent years, the fashion industry has been actively working on SDGs. Still, this work is characterized by a message that overlaps with the artistic perspective of Tiravani in the context of the mode that Daimaru has been working on for many years. The project was planned by curatorial director Akiko Ichikawa.
