Ulla Johnson NYFW SS2021 photos IMAXTREE

Charged with symbolism and hope, Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island set the scene for the emotionally charged runway debut of Ulla Johnson SS21. A place of inspiration and serenity, its juxtaposition of verdant beauty with the urban landscape on its horizon nods to the evocative contrasts within the collection.

A graphic hand painted runway, unfurling over an expansive lawn was created by the artists of Oliphant Studios in Bushwick. Layers of paint was applied to sisal carpet, creating the emboldened color blocked path. Framed by allées of trees, the iconic New York City skyline and Johnsons hometown, with views to the United Nations, offers backdrop of renewal and hope.

The textured emotive beauty of Shamiqua, a rising talent from Staten Island set the sound of the season with a live performance.

Born and raised in Manhattan, the daughter of archaeologists, Ulla Johnson honed her signature style between the streets of New York and the far-flung destinations of their family travels. Her eponymous line, founded in 2000 just after her graduation from university, immediately caught the attention of the fashion press. She has never wavered on her steadfast attention to the details of construction that have become her hallmark, basing each of her collections on a foundation of natural fibers, beautiful finishing, and ease of fit and form.
